What is Agentic Walled Gardens?

Closed ecosystems where agents can only transact within one platform (Microsoft Research term).

In depth

Agentic walled gardens occur when settlement neutrality and reputation equivalence are violated, forcing agents to choose a single platform (Microsoft Teams agents, Slack agents, Apple agents). Without interoperability, agents build reputation only within their silo and can't port to competitors. This is a Microsoft Research term describing the lock-in risk. Open protocols (A2A, settlement neutrality) are designed to prevent this.
