AID's design choice is to make agent discovery and identity advertisement work at the layer of internet infrastructure that has been settled since 1983: DNS. Where AIS-1 anchors identity on-chain and ARIA combines DNS with NIST anchoring, AID is the maximalist DNS-only position. The protocol-agnostic discovery (MCP, A2A, OpenAPI, local Docker) makes it the cheapest possible substrate for any agent that needs to be found. Coded trust_model 'identity' rather than 'legal' because AID itself does not assert a trust framework — it specifies a discovery format. The legal/trust layer must come from a sibling protocol (AIS-1, Skyfire KYA). MIT-licensed and advancing as IETF Internet-Draft means it is the lowest-cost-to-implement entry in the identity cluster — a real strategic differentiator in a fragmented standards landscape.
